Q: When is the transition from Duo to Okta happening?

  • January 14: Enrollment begins organization wide.
  • February 25: Okta Verify replaces Duo for MFA.
  • Q: When do I stop using Duo?

    A: February 25, 2026 is the cutover from Duo to Okta.

  • If you have not enrolled in Okta Verify by February 25, 2026, you will be prompted to enroll after sign in
    and won't be able to access anything until you complete enrollment in Okta.
  • To enroll in Okta, make sure Duo is activated on your device.
  • Q: How do I enroll in Okta Verify?

    A: Follow these instructions or watch the video: Enroll in Okta

    Q: Do I uninstall Duo after enrolling?

    A: You should keep both apps (Duo and Okta) installed.

    Q: Will this change how I log in to my other applications?

    A: No. Only the authentication method is changing.

    Q: Will I need to change my password?

    A: You will not need to update your password.

    Q: I’m already using Okta Verify for another organization. Can I also use it to log in to my UMICH account?

    Q: How do I add multiple devices with Okta Verify?

    Q: How do I get started if I don’t have a smart phone or the Okta app?

    Q: What should I do if I have already enrolled in Okta but lost my phone and got a new one?

    A: If you’ve previously enrolled in Okta and need to transfer your account to a new device,
    but do not have a backup device (e.g., replacing a lost phone), please submit a ticket for assistance.

  • Note: When you contact the ITS Service Center, be prepared to provide the following information, as applicable:
    • Inform the Service Center employee that you are a user of the Michigan Data Collaborative’s User Portal.
      You are not a U-M employee; however, you have an MDC Sponsored Account with a U-M ID and uniqname to access the MDC dashboard.
    • If possible, access your U-M ID and UM username (uniqname). You may be required to use your Level-1 password to log in.
    • Caution: Do not provide your password to anyone!
